Konkretes Ziel der COST-Aktionen, dem Förderinstrument von COST, ist der Auf- beziehungsweise Ausbau von gemeinsamen thematischen Forschungsnetzwerken in Europa mit variabler Geometrie.
COST ist das einzige Förderinstrument, das wissenschaftsgetrieben ist (Bottom-up-Prinzip) und auch noch nach Projektstart weitere Mitglieder in das Netzwerk aufnimmt. Somit können Sie entweder eine neue COST-Aktion anstoßen oder einer bereits laufenden COST-Aktion zu einem bestimmten Themenfeld beitreten. COST ist daher additional zu anderen EU-Förderinstrumenten zu sehen und schließt eine Lücke in der europäischen Förderlandschaft.
